Fundraising for summer youth programs
The King Soopers Gift Card program is underway! We received the first statement from Kings and are off to a good start. The initial 35 cards have been sold and 63% of them were reloaded over the course of the first month. In that time, FDFC earned $220 towards camp just by purchasing groceries and gas! Remember to keep on re-loading! Every time you do, our youth benefit. We have a new supply of cards available if you need more. Just let Traci Chambers know and she can coordinate with you. God bless you as you support this fundraising program.
Introduction to the Bible
Is there anyone interested in developing and teaching a six week (during the Sunday Christian Education hour) class on this topic? Very basic. Resources and assistance available. Please contact Peggy Bopp.
Youth and volunteer questionnaires
If you are interested in volunteering with the youth program, there are questionnaires on the library table in the foyer. If you have the opportunity, please fill it out and give it to Meg or to the church office.
Senior High Camp service project
This year, one of our service projects during Senior High Camp is to pack shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We are requesting that each of the congregations in Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting be a part of this service project by collecting the following items from now until camp. It is still a good time to purchase many school supplies as it is the beginning of a new semester. We appreciate your generosity and assistance in helping to reach children in third world nations with the Gospel and our gifts of love.
· School Supplies: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads and paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc. · Toys: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky, etc. · Hygiene Items: toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc. · Other: T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries)
DO NOT INCLUDE: Used or damaged items, war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow-globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
Library Corner: The Journal of John Woolman (A quick synopsis by Bob Savery)
John Woolman was a truly amazing man of the mid eighteenth century, a colonial Quaker. He was born in New Jersey in 1720. He was a tailor by trade except when traveling. And TRAVEL he did! At an early age (by today’s standards) of just 23 years, he was a recorded minister. On one of his journeys into Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Caronia (always by horseback or walking) he covered 1,150 miles in about two months. This was typical. Early in his life he was personally convicted that the institution of slavery was inconsistent with the religious testimony of equality. He also felt that with God’s provision of spiritual comfort and with the simplest necessities of life, one should be content. It appeared many people (including Quakers) were forgetting that; and while trying to obtain quick material gain for themselves were taking advantage of other people, especially slaves. He traveled all over the Colonies and also to England, visiting many Friends Meetings. John Woolman was a very Godly man and a pillar in the Quaker tradition. This book shares his experiences and responses. It can be obtained in the FDFC library and is (in my humble opinion) a MUST read.

New year—new photo???
It's a New Year and some of the photos on our church photo board are pretty outdated. Now is the time to update. Or if you are new to the church and would like to be included, we want your photo, too. You don't need to be a member. Photos will be taken before or after the worship service in the parlor any Sunday in January. It only takes a couple minutes but really helps us connect as a family.
Interested in reading through the Bible this year?
There are a number of helpful resources. Here are a few: · The One Year Chronological Bible (Tynadale) published in a number of translations. · http://www.haventoday.org/ offers a 90 day reading plan that can be downloaded (Or we can print one for you in the church office). They also offer The Bible in 90 Days printed in the NIV translation. And they offer mobile apps and audio options. · Or, you can set up a daily Bible reading plan at www.youversion.com/reading-plans.

The Music Support Committee
This committee is the “booking agent” for Sunday offertories and special music. Our aim is to free Jared to focus on his gifts in worship planning, set up, and leadership. We would like to express our thanks to the musicians who have served during Sunday worship. The preludes, pianists, and offertories have all been beautiful offerings to God, immeasurably enriching our Sunday morning experience. Thank you all! There is room for YOU! We’re always looking for new talent! If you have a musical gift you would like to share with the congregation, please speak to either Jared Haley, Connie Chambers, Phyllis Lemons or Susan Eisenhower and we will find a date for your contribution. “Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things.” Psalm 98:1

Quaker Aid
Quaker Aid was created primarily to provide emergency assistance for needy members and regular attendees of First Denver Friends Church. The fund assists with the necessities of life such as, food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. The members of this congregation want to “bear one another’s burden and so fulfill the law of Christ,” (Galatians 6:2). If you have a need that fits this description please contact the church office for more information on the policy and a short application. If you would like to contribute to the fund please designate your contribution for Quaker Aid. Contributions to Quaker Aid are tax deductible. The Spiritual Life Committee supervises Quaker Aid. |
