First Denver Friends Church Disaster Service  2012

Friends Disaster Service-Texas Area is expecting a group in from Colorado to work the week of Feb. 20-24 (note: date changed from 14-19 to 20-24). We will, hopefully, be sheet rocking the interior of the house. We are wondering who else will be available to work that week. Yes, there is still work to be done. We will take help from one day to the entire week, whatever is convenient for you. Let us know if you can help.

Blessings from God as you strive to serve Him. Looking forward to
hearing from you.

Completion of Ethel Clark Lodge

At Quaker Ridge Camp

Dear Friends,

I was at camp Jan. 17th &18th with my Sunday School class helping to get ready to put up trim in the basement. Most of the class sanded and stained about 6,000 Lineal feet of trim board.

I asked Dave Milton what we as churches could do to help him get this project done before our permit runs out  this spring. He said that individuals or groups could come up during the week (Every weekend until summer is booked for camps). They will feed and house you while you work. If you are interested in going to camp but it would be helpful to be reimbursed for travel I have some funds  to do that.

What they need done in the next 2 to 3 months include (in order almost?) Painting, staining, doors hung, windows and doors trimmed, plumbing, drywall hung, (taped and textured ?), tile ( maybe).

This is our last chance to do 2 things, 1- cut down on the cost and 2-get done before our permit runs out. If we do not get it done by spring, any thing we do after that point puts us in the new regulations and could cause us to have to sprinkle the building and other things that will run the cost up tremendously.

Please give me a call at 303-477-1921 or E-mail me at:  jdougholcombe@gmail.com  or call Dave Milton at 1-719-3044062 (At camp) His e-mail is:  dave@quakerridgecamp.org

Buildings for Haiti Update

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to send out an update on the Homes for Haiti project. Although Tom could not attend the last trip to Haiti because of his knee replacement surgery, we do have word on the homes. They were release from customs and are now being assembled. Matt, who is coordinator for C.O.R.E., went to Haiti to teach locals how to assemble the homes. They did not weather well sitting at the dock and while being held in customs, so they have had to come up with another way of shipping. The Lutherans are assuming the responsibility of shipping the remaining homes to Haiti, which is a blessing. There has been an understanding with customs in Haiti, so there will not be the problems with the next 225 homes that will be shipped. The work at the warehouse in League City will continue until the last of the homes that were started are completed and then the project will end.

The people of Haiti were thrilled with the homes and will live in them until permanent housing is available. So know that what you gave to the project is in the process of coming to completion and the people of Haiti are blessed.

Check out the following site to see the first pictures of the homes in Haiti. Haiti Trip Slide show

Don’t forget to check out the FDS website for updates regularly. We will have the pictures posted from Tom’s trip in June soon.

May the Lord continue to bless you for your faithfulness to His ministry through Friends Disaster Service.

 In Christ’s service,

   Kathy Hoke

Temporary Buildings for Haiti (8' x 12')are being built in Colorado By Core-Alliance

Core-Alliance is also building these shelters in Myrtle Beach, Houston and in Littleton Colorado. Their goal is to build 10,000 shelters that equal  4 walls a floor and roof . Then stack, band the components for each unit together, and ship them to Haiti.  They plan to train and pay the Haiti people to assemble them on site. There are approx . 1000 units on their way to Haiti that will be put up in mid May.

The Littleton Core -Alliance is being run by Russell Burton and the site where the shelters are being built is at Russell’s  House with a 6,000 SF Shop and 4 acres. They will be working every Saturday except May 15 , until the end of June , or until the money runs out. As the rainy season comes on there will be a dire need for more substantial housing than card board and sheets.

The directions to the Burtons house is as follows : coming from Denver go south on I25 to the exit for Santa Fe Drive continue south  past C 470 for approximately  4 miles Just before the Titan Road overpass  there will be an electronic road sign that tells you to use Lake side Circle  to get to Chatfield  Drive take a left before Titan on to Lakeside Circle  then  right on Chatfield Drive go approximately 1 mile then left into the yard (there will be a sign about housing  for Haiti) . The address is 10360 Chatfield  Drive. Mr. Burtons phone  number is 303-358-8838

Haiti Emergency Relief
In Haiti we have about a dozen Evangelical Friends Churches  under the  direction of Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region with 2000-2500 attendees.  They are located 30 miles northwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  Many in these hills will be unlikely to get aid from other sources anytime soon, according to John Williams, Eastern Region Superintendent.

John Williams reported on Wednesday morning (1-13) that with the break-down in phone communication they had not yet reached William Bertrand, our Friends leader in Haiti.  He asks all of us to pray for contact to be established soon, and for our Friends families and churches who may be affected.

Emergency funds are greatly needed in Haiti.  All that you send through EFM will be forwarded to Eastern Region who directly supervise the Friends Churches.  Please clearly mark your check "Haiti-relief only" or "Haiti-where needed most."  We recommend "where needed most" which gives the freedom to help the missionaries and their ministries, too.  Send your gift to EFM, P.O. Box 525, Arvada, CO 80001.

We encourage all our Friends churches to take an offering this Sunday for Haiti
.

From a heart that cares,
Chuck Mylander
EFM Director
